TiLite Customizable Manual Wheelchairs
Earlier this month I wrote an article about the Whirlwind RoughRider. A rugged wheelchair made for people in developing countries that was being made available in the U.S. I later received a comment from a reader that said they’d prefer their TiLite wheelchair over the RoughRider. So I decided to research TiLite and see all they had to offer. Now the two companies differ in that the RoughRider is more of a low cost one size-fits-all wheelchair. While TiLite makes their manual wheelchairs very customizable to the buyer and has much more flash in looks.
TiLite specializes in manual wheelchairs and makes four basic types: Rigid, Folding, Youth, and Sport. Each can be customized to a look and style that the buyer prefers. One look they offer is the Armed Forces Edition pictured above. Camouflaged material and colored metal identified with each of the four main branches of the military is offered. On the back of the seats are the emblems of the military branch chosen. The Armed Forces Edition wheelchairs are a great for those that have served and to honor those that have served.
A unique customized option TiLite offers is tattooed titanium frames. These tattoos are etched into the metal to give added character and definite coolness factor. Four designs are available and differ in personality to suit yours. Although I’m still deciding which one I’d pick if I were to purchase one. Let us know which one you like best.
If you visit TiLite’s Options PDF, you’ll discover just how customizable their wheelchairs can be. You can customize the wheel types, footrests, push handles, and more. Add ons include side guards, armrests, storage pouches, luggage carriers, and yes more. Their metal frames come in either aluminum or titanium. Advantages of aluminum are its light weight, low cost, and resistance to rust. Titanium has a great weight to strength ratio, absorbs vibrations, and is incredibly durable.
I’m very happy I received that comment from the reader who preferred TiLite because I really wasn’t aware of how great these wheelchairs are. To view more of TiLite’s wheelchairs visit their website at www.TiLite.com
