An opinion that seems to be universal amongst everyone is the dislike of medical pill containers. Whether they hard to open bottles or frustrating blister packages. Each can be difficult for people with limited use of their hands to use. There are pill dispensing devices on the market now that work in different ways and people can choose which one works best for them. British product design student Johnathan Eley, has designed own pill dispenser concept called Revolve.

The Working Parts
Revolve is a cylinder with a ratcheted rotating top. Inside is a Trivial Pursuit pie shaped container that has five separate pill containers. On the side are visual horizontal bars to indicate each pill container. The outside cover is made from soft silicone for comfort. At the bottom of Revolve is a digital clock to set timing alarms that can audible or set to vibrate.

Usage
When the times to take a medication, the user rotates the top half until it clicks to the next pill container. Then the user tilts Revolve up their mouth like their drinking a glass of water and takes the pill or pills. The soft silicon sides are meant to help exercise the hand while also being comfortable. Putting the pills in the containers can be done by the user depending on their hand dexterity. The top is sunken in so a pill can be dropped in then guided into the pill container. Otherwise a caretaker can put the pills in. Since there are only five pill containers, Revolve is limited to daily use. Revolve also would not be appropriate if small children are around since it’s easy to open and use.

Suggestions and Conclusion
I would make a couple of small recommendations to the Revolve design. First being a way to label the pill containers with text. This would help with better knowing what’s in each pill container. More pill containers in a tiered system would add days of pills instead of just one day. Added mechanics would be needed to do this but it would be possible. Overall though this is a nice pill dispenser that is simple yet functional. To see more of Johnathan Eley’s portfolio, visit this website.
