Hotel Indigo | Wheelchair Accessible Hotel in Asheville, North Carolina
I’ll admit that the only thing I really knew about Asheville, North Carolina before writing this article was that UNC Asheville has made the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on occasion. However I have since discovered that the location is considered one of the best places in the U.S. to live in because of the natural beauty and quality of life. If you do plan to visit the Asheville area and need a wheelchair accessible hotel to stay in, then the Hotel Indigo might be the place for you.
Colorful Feelings
The look of Hotel Indigo is modern with vibrant colors that will make you feel alive. Sort of a toned down and modernized version of the bright and colorful Miami style architecture. The colors may be varied and bright, but they have a soft and welcoming feel. Now let’s tour through to see some of the accessible features.

Welcome to Hotel Indigo
As expected the front doors are accessible with automatic openers and plenty of space. Once inside the lobby desk is not what you would expect. Instead of a long linear counter, there is a brightly lit circular desk adorned with monarch butterfly images on the side panels. There is a lower counter section for wheelchair accessibility. Also in the lobby area are computer kiosks and a printer. One of the computers is wheelchair accessible with a lower desk height and clear roll under space. The printer is located on a lower shelf for easy and reachable access.
Accessible Rooms
Once you have checked in it’s time to go to your room (Hotel Indigo has 5 accessible rooms). Most hotels have low pile carpet throughout their rooms which is fine for wheelchair use. Hardwood (probably faux hardwood) floors are used for the rooms in this hotel. Which gives a nice look that is not typically seen while still being wheelchair accessible. Of course the main feature that makes a hotel room wheelchair accessible is the bathroom. Which Hotel Indigo does not disappoint. A spacious bathroom with a roll in shower and roll under vanities is available. Dark green tiles are used for the shower surround with a white band that runs with the grab bars. The white band continues around the bathroom and connects with the white countertop. Below the countertop are wood panels and storage areas.
Conclusions and More
Hotel Indigo has other wheelchair accessible rooms including dining areas, meeting rooms, and fitness room. Although the fitness room appears to only have exercise machines and dumb bells.
