Wheelchair Platform Lift for Churches
As I’ve talked about before in previous articles, churches are exempt from ADA building code regulations. However many do make efforts to make their buildings accessible to members of their congregation that might have disabilities. One section of most churches that is not accessible is the raised stage. In all churches, there are times when members of the congregation need to come to the stage as part of a ceremony or recognition. So an accessible stage would be nice. Also the person running the show might be someone who needs an accessible stage. One way to make an accessible church stage is with the Butler Mobility Church Sanctuary Wheelchair Lift. A platform lift that blends in with the woodwork of many churches.
Other Ways
Most platform lifts are made of metal and very utilitarian looking. Some of the nicer looking ones usually involve an enclosure around the lift itself. Which for a church would be too much for a short vertical trip in a sanctuary space. Getting access to the stage is first and foremost. But if possible, having the platform lift blend in with the surrounding decor is nice to have.
A Wooden Alternative
Butler’s platform lift consists of a wooden enclosure with a top and bottom gate. Unlike some other platform lifts, just the floor raises and lowers within the enclosure. Lifting and lowering is done with push buttons located in the enclosure or at both gates. In case of a power outage, a battery backup can continue for another 12-15 trips. Load capacity is 750 lbs.
Conclusion
Of course if there is enough space and the run not too long, a ramp could also give stage access. But the Butler Mobility Church Sanctuary Wheelchair Lift is another option that also looks great.
