In the Bad Design Style series I’ll mention how hotels will sometimes claim wheelchair accessibility when there really isn’t any. Or where there is, it’s poorly done. But if a hotel does in fact have good accessibility and looks great doing so, I like to feature them. And judging from their website and reviews, Hampton Inn & Suites Paso Robles looks to be a good choice as a wheelchair accessible hotel.
Accessible Features
The hotel is located in Paso Robles, California which is between Los Angeles and the Bay Area. A place that people will visit when touring California’s wineries. Within the hotel are four types of accessible rooms with both king and queen size beds. Three have roll-in showers while the fourth has an accessible bathtub. All also have visual alarm clocks along with visual notification for knocks, doorbells, or phone calls.

Double Grab Bars
But I want to focus on the accessible bathrooms. Here there are full roll-in showers and roll-under vanities. What I like about the showers are the two grab bars along the long back wall. You don’t see this very often but this gives more gripping points for people of different sizes. For the bathtubs this is actually required by the ADA.
Conclusion
Visually the light mocha colored walls contrast well with the black counters. Overall the feel is very formal and elegant. Which matches the feel and atmosphere of wine country. For more on the Hampton Inn & Suites Paso Robles and their accessible hotel rooms visit this link.
