Bad Design Style: Case #23
I don’t know about you but I do like a certain amount of privacy when I use a public restroom. So if I’m doing some business while on the toilet, I’d prefer not to have someone inches from me using the urinal. Actually all of these fixtures are too close together for comfort.
Privacy is not the only issue here. First this is not ADA compliant because the urinal is in a space that’s supposed to be clear. The urinal is right where many wheelchair users position themselves before transferring. In fact this entire setup is probably a plumbing code violation (depending on local codes). Many codes require pluming fixtures be a certain distance apart and this would not pass in most places.
A case of poor design by cramming too much in too small a space. Clearly there was no building permit issued or the inspector failed to identify the ADA violation.
