Bad Design Style: Case #3
Non-ADA compliant parking is unfortunately a common problem to this day. Even in new parking lots or freshly repainted ones, many do not follow ADA guidelines. The photo above by Liz Henry shows a disabled parking space that violates many of these guidelines.
First problem is that there is no striped area to allow space to enter and exit a vehicle as required by ADA. Ironically you can see faded paint where a striped area once was. Though even if the striped area was still there, there’s still no curb cut nearby. Finally, this entrance is not the main or accessible entrance. There are stairs when you open the door. ADA states that accessible parking spaces must be the closest parking spaces to an accessible entrance.
