Bad Design Style: Case #53
Ever look at a picture and do a double take? Where you go, “Wait a second, something’s not right here.” That’s kind of what happened when I first saw this picture out of Charlottesville, Virginia by The Puffer. Everything seems fine at first glance until to look closer at the painted crosswalk.
Ya, it’s not lined up with the sidewalk. Sure the sidewalk itself is wheelchair accessible but cars are going to pull up to the crosswalk. Then the accessible path is blocked. You’ll also notice that halfway down the intersection the median juts into crosswalk. So people would have to outside the painted crosswalk while going to the other side. Which is a potentially dangerous situation. Somehow planning and implementation was not done to a fail here.
