Color Changing Children’s Splint

During my time on this earth thus far, I have broken my wrist and elbow along with severely spraining my wrist. Thus I am very familiar with casts and splints. At the time I broke my wrist I was about 3 or 4 years old. So having something to divert my attention away from the injured wrist would’ve been nice. Something like this colorful children’s splint by the Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI) might have done the trick. A reusable splint that changes color.

Just Add Water
The splint starts out flat and in its original color. To mold, the splint is placed in water to make it flexible. The temperature of the water causes the splint to change color. The splint is then wrapped around the problem area and allowed to dry. As it dries, the splint reverts back to its original color.

Conclusion
This splint is not a medical miracle, but if it makes the healing process for a child a little easier, then it’s a quality product. The splint won an iF Award for its design which means it’s a product available for use. Though I wasn’t able to find any available on an English website. But maybe that’ll change over time.
