Dyson Airblade Tap | Touchless Faucet-Dryer Combo
Whether it’s rolling ball vacuums or bladeless fans, Dyson has become a familiar name brand. Their (his) products are innovative and stand out from other products. Although the price points are very high and product effectiveness can be overstated. That being said, I do like their Airblade hand dryers. If you’ve been to a new or remodeled restroom you may have seen and used these. Dyson has now incorporated this technology into a faucet tap. With the Dyson Airblade Tap (DAT) hand washing and drying can be done touchless and in one place.
So why is DAT considered accessible and an example of universal design? Well I can think of two main reasons. First is the touchless design for controlling the water and dryers. This makes the controls easier to use for those who have difficulty using their hands or arms. Such as severe arthritis where gripping and grasping is difficult. Second advantage is how washing and drying is done in one place. Very convenient for any one but maybe even more so for wheelchair users. This way there’s no having to roll over to the paper towel dispenser or dryer with wet hands. Plus there’s no reaching up for paper towels that might be blocked by a trash can.
The DAT has a minimalistic look with a tube the comes straight out and two other tubes that come out the sides. The center is for the water tap and the sides are the dryers. Motion sensors control each. The dryers send out a thin and focused sheet of air, acting similar to a drive thru car wash dryer. Water is guided towards the drain by the angle of the blowing air. Dyson claims you can dry your hand in 14 seconds compared to 43 seconds on other dryers.
DAT is designed mainly for commercial restrooms but I’m sure you could get one for your home if you wish. Either way this faucuet-dryer combo does have some accessible features. Watch the video below for more info or visit this website.
