elio LED Grab Bars
When designing an accessible space for someone that is elderly or visually impaired, is lighting. For someone that is elderly, lighting is important because we lose some ability to see contrast as we age. Being able to see a path or what we’re grabbing onto can be a safety issue. Especially for someone who is new to low vision as their body slows down. Last year I wrote an article about a lighted grab bar called the Balance Beam. Today I’m featuring more LED grab bars by elio of Holland, Michigan.
Lighted Center
With elio’s lighted grab bars, the center portion is lighted with metal ends. The center lighted portion is clear all the way around so light goes all the way around 360°. This gives plenty of light to see the grab bar and to light up the surrounding space. The LED lights can be ordered to shine white or amber.
Options
Grab bar lengths available are 18in, 24in, 36in, 42in, and 52in. Custom lengths can be ordered also. The grab bars are rated at 250lbs and have a 1.5in diameter. Endcaps are available as brushed or polished steel.
Be Safe
Low voltage electricity powers the grab bars. Which means an electrician should be hired to install the wiring behind the wall. Especially when installed in a wet area like a shower, you want to make sure the electrical work is done properly. Since the lights are low voltage LED, the cost of utilities will be very small.
Conclusion
Having grab bars with lights are a nice added feature that can increase safety. These LED grab bars by elio do the trick and look pretty nice doing so I must say. For more information on elio and their grab bars visit www.Elio-itc.com and their Facebook page.
