Awhile backĀ  I wrote about a lift oven by Gaggenau. That oven mounted underneath an upper cabinet and had a tray that lowered to the counter with the push of a button. Well now we have the opposite of that with an oven that comes up out of the counter, the sleek Sense C5100 Lift oven by British company Caple.

Made of stainless steel and glass shelves, the oven hides discretely in the counter. Then rises up with the push of a button. The oven shelves are made of glass telescope out for easy access. Controlling the unit are 13 buttons with programs like Pizza and Bread Making. Don’t worry about fingers getting caught while the oven is being lowered. “Crush sensors” are in place to prevent this.

What makes this oven potentially wheelchair accessible is its counter top height and doorless design. A wheelchair user could position themselves close to the oven, pull out the glass shelved, place items in the oven, then send them down for cooking. Controls are also at the counter’s edge for easy access. If the raising and lowering could be stopped at different heights, then the glass shelves would be even more accessible.

This is a great oven for those who want an accessible oven with dramatic features. Not for everyone but it’s another option available that can be considered wheelchair accessible.
