For people with diabetes, one of the least pleasant things that needs to be done is the daily pricking of blood. This can be especially true for children. Any way to make the process a little less unpleasant is always welcome. Last year I featured a child friendly glucose meter concept called the Blood Buddy. Today I’m featuring another glucometer for children called Vampire Winny by Romanian industrial designer Diana Dumitrescu  .

Boo-cose Meter
To make the blood pricking process less scary, Dumitrescu created a loveable and cute vampire character. With a big smile and little wings, this vampire is not one to give nightmares.

Vant De Blood
When the time comes to get some blood, the child puts their finger into the mouth of the vampire. Then with a squeeze a prick comes from the bottom of the vampires mouth. Pushing the wings together then brings the blood strip out from the top of the vampire’s head.

Vampire App
Dumitrescu also wants to incorporate a smartphone and tablet app to work with Vampire Winny. The friendly characters appear on the app also to give back the information. The app would also serve as a scheduler and reminder when to get blood.

Conclusion
Anything that can be done to make blood pricking for a child a better experience is always good in my book. I believe that the Vampire Winny glucometer would do this easily. Children could view the vampire as a buddy that helps keep them healthy. To see more of Diana Dumitrescu’s portfolio visit this link.
