Washa|part Wall Mounted Washer and Dryer Concept
Washing machines and dryers are big appliances that take up a lot of space. Which is why they can be hard to relocate within a house because of the space they require. Then there are the plumbing and electrical lines that need to be relocated. But if space and accessibility are the only issues, then the Washa|part washer and dryer concept by Turkish industrial designers Buse Üstün and Fulya Pekserbes may be a solution. This washer and dryer concept is also wheelchair accessible because its opening is angled out and can be mounted at different heights.
Washa|part System
Washa|part is more than just an appliance but also a system. Beginning with module/laundry bins that can be located in the rooms of multiple people. Once the module is full, that individual takes it to the main unit. Since the modules are made for individuals, they’re smaller and easy to transport.
Washa Washa
The main unit is a tube shaped washer/dryer combo unit mounted at an angle onto the wall. Mounting height can be installed to what works best for the users. Once at the main unit with the full module, the user pushes a button to open the lid. The lid is closed and the user chooses the wash settings they want.
Little Details
To save water and reduce overall weight, steam washing is used. Detergent only needs to be added every 40 washes or so. An indicator message lights up when the detergent needs to be refilled.
Conclusion
Although Washa|part can’t wash large amounts of laundry at one time, it could be nimble because individuals can easily take care of their own laundry. Floor space is opened up by being wall mounted and being a washer/dryer combo. Potentially freeing up wheelchair turning and roll-under space. That and an accessible mounting height makes Washa|part wheelchair accessible.
