So this is really cool, a wheelchair accessible kayak dock located at Lake Cunnigham in Omaha, Nebraska. The lake is popular with many types of water vehicles including kayaks so recently the Parks and Recreation Department made a wheelchair accessible area.

Working with a QLI, a local non-profit that works with people with disabilities, and EZ Dock, the parks and rec dept set about creating a wheelchair accessible dock that works. Impressive since this goes above and beyond ADA requirements.

How the dock works is pretty simple. The kayak is first set onto a kind of boat ramp. There is a transfer bench where the user would then move into position to enter the kayak. Once in the user uses the handrails to move into the water. Rollers on the boat ramp makes this a smooth transition.

What I also like about this is how a whole wheelchair accessible area was constructed. So not just one thing is wheelchair accessible. There is ample parking and also a dining area. For more on this wheelchair accessible kayak dock read this article.
