Right now as I’m writing this article, March Madness is going on and Creighton is taking on Duke. So what better time than to write about one of Creighton’s former players that is doing some good. Kyle Korver is a Creighton alum that currently plays for the Atlanta Hawks. A few years ago he started the Kyle Korver Foundation to help those in need. As an extension of that foundation Seer Outfitters was born. This organization sells clothing and then uses the proceeds to build wheelchair ramps in the Salt Lake City area.

Design Freedom
Since my projects are grant funded, there are limitations on how I can design ramps. Functional quality is important but I can’t go all HGTV Design Star. However other non-profits and charities with other funding sources can have some more flexibility. Since Seer Outfitters is their own funding source, they can more or less do as they want. In the case of ramps, ones that look great while still serving their main purpose.

Added Style
Most noticeable in their ramps are the glossy black metal balusters and handrails. This gives much more of a design feel than standard wooden balusters. You’ll also notice that each of the posts have a solar powered light on top for added style in the day and night. In two of the pictures the posts contrast nicely in color to the rest of the ramp.

Conclusion
Kyle Korver, his foundations, and their workers have done some real good and done so with style. So far they have built nearly 100 (maybe more by now) wheelchair ramps. Hope they can do another 100 soon. Watch the videos below for more information on how Seer Outfitters started.
